Background for the material

Behind this material is a simple message we keep hearing from students: “Please talk to us about generative AI.” Many students are already using these tools in different ways, sometimes productively, sometimes uncertainly - and they want clearer guidance, shared expectations, and space to discuss what responsible use looks like in their specific course context. At the same time, many educators are asking for practical support to take that conversation in class: not a long policy document, but something that makes it easy to start a constructive dialogue without having to be an AI expert.

To support that need, this material has been developed by a working group consisting of representatives from each faculty and IAS PBL. It combines lecture-ready videos with supplementary slides for discussion - so you can quickly frame the topic, invite reflection, and facilitate discussion in a way that fits your local context.

How to use the material

The slide deck includes short videos with supplementary slides for discussion you can use in lectures. You’re welcome to use it as-is, but we encourage you to download it and adapt it to your local context, e.g., add course-specific rules and guidelines, include your own examples, and remove anything you don’t need.

Evaluation

After using the material, you’re very welcome to fill out the short evaluation survey found at the last slide. Student responses are completely anonymous. We are not asking the students about who did their introduction. For educators, you’ll be asked to sign in so we can verify that the survey is completed by a staff member, we are not assessing your performance as a teacher. Your responses will be treated confidentially and, if shared in any form, will be anonymized. The purpose is simply to understand the relevance and usefulness of the material.
