After the 2022 Midterms: American democracy whitherto?

On November 8th, a third of the Senate and the full Congress was up for the US Midterm election. The Democratic Party defied the expectations of many by maintaining control of the US Senate and lost fewer US House seats than polls had predicted. Despite the disappointing results garnered by the Trump-endorsed candidates, Donald Trump announced his intention to run for Presidency in 2024. This despite that his chances seem thinner than before the elections. Does American democracy and the Democratic Party come stronger out of this? Will these results affect the power balances and the role of Trump in the party? There is lot of talk about Ron De Santis being an alternative to Trump and Trumpism: What alternative is that? And how are the far-right fringes reacting to all of this?
