Abstract
Children with hearing loss increasingly benefit from early detection and intervention, achieving better language outcomes and quality of life than previous generations. However, many still struggle with complex listening tasks, such as timbre recognition, spatial hearing, and vocal emotion recognition, and those with additional conditions often show limited progress. This PhD project explores novel training tools to support their auditory and musical development. Using user-centered design, the research—conducted with clinicians, children, and parents—includes the development and evaluation of five prototypes: three vibrotactile systems and two interactive tools.
