The new Head of Department at the Department of Health Science and Technology at Aalborg University (AAU) will be Christian Brink Scholz, who comes from a position focused on innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration between physicians and engineers. According to Christian Brink Scholz, the department plays an important role in supporting society’s needs through education, research, and innovation.

The Department of Health Science and Technology at AAU will welcome its new Head of Department in May. Christian Brink Scholz brings an international career within digital health, medical technology, and innovation management. He also brings extensive experience from global research and development work in Denmark, the United States, and Switzerland.

“I look forward to creating a framework where cross-disciplinary collaboration becomes even stronger, and where the department can continue to be internationally leading within both education, research, and digital health,” says Christian Brink Scholz. He believes that the Department of Health Science and Technology stands as a central player in addressing some of the healthcare system’s greatest challenges.

Christian Brink Scholz is a trained medical doctor and holds a PhD. With his deep clinical insight and technological understanding, the department will have a strong foundation for advancing its key strategic areas, such as digital health.

Focus on Digital Health

Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at AAU, Karina Dahl Steffensen, welcomes Christian Brink Scholz and highlights that his passion for digital health, strong interdisciplinary understanding, and a strong commitment to educating young people with competencies rooted in societal and healthcare needs.

Christian’s background as a medical doctor, combined with his great interest in and experience with digital health and innovation, is a major strength for the Department of Health Science and Technology and for AAU at a time when society is calling for new technological solutions in the healthcare system,” says Karina Dahl Steffensen.

Christian Brink Scholz has extensive experience with interdisciplinary collaborations and projects and thrives at the intersection between physicians, engineers, and software developers. Finding new technological solutions together is more important than ever, and this is precisely what he aims to strengthen at AAU and the Department of Health Science and Technology.

“I am motivated by leading where technical and medical expertise merge. Innovation is not the goal, but a means to create real value for patients and for society,” says Christian Brink Scholz.

With the new university hospital, the department is located physically close to both the Department of Clinical Medicine and the hospital campus. This close proximity is a major advantage for collaboration, and Christian Brink Scholz is looking forward to strengthening collaboration between the department’s staff and the clinical specialties.

Christian Brink Scholz has strong ties to Northern Jutland, where he has previously lived and worked as a doctor. He describes it as a personal pleasure to return to the region and contribute to the continued development of the university.

Christian has eight years of experience from Novo Nordisk in Denmark, the United States, and Switzerland. He takes up the position on 1 May.

Christian Brink Scholz is a medical doctor and researcher with extensive international leadership experience from Novo Nordisk in Denmark, Switzerland, and the USA. He works at the intersection of medicine, technology, and digital innovation. His strengths lie in combining regulatory understanding, technical insight, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Privately, Christian has strong ties to Northern Jutland, where he has previously worked as a doctor and started a family. After several years abroad, he is motivated to return and contribute with international experience, an analytical mindset, and strong commitment to education, health technology, and regional development.
