Yensi Flores Bueso is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at University College Cork and the Institute for Protein Design, University of Washington. Her research focuses on AI-driven computational protein design, a tipping-point technology that creates proteins beyond nature opening new possibilities in health and sustainability.

She is also an advocate for open science and a research culture that is sustainable and inclusive. She advances this mission through her roles: as Co-Chair of the Global Young Academy and as its representative on the UN Secretary-General’s Scientific Advisory Board, where she ensures that early-career researchers worldwide are included in global debates. She also brings this commitment to spaces shaping policy, such as the 2027 Global Sustainable Development Report and the inaugural Steering Board of the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA).

She has led and co-authored studies on global promotion policies, authorship, and accountability in research, providing evidence on how assessment systems shape research cultures. he also contributes to global policy dialogue that bring together scientists, policymakers, and other stakeholders—such as the UN Open Science Conference, the UN High-Level Political Forum, and the OECD Global Science Forum—working to build research systems that are transparent, inclusive, and oriented to the public good.
