Updated with final figurs below, 16 MARTS 2024
When the clock struck 12 today, the application deadline for applying to the country's higher education programmes through Quota 2 expired. At Aalborg University, preliminary figures show that the number of applicants is stable with just over 7600 applications.
One programme in particular stands out: the new English-taught Bachelor in Economics and Business Administration that will be offered for the first time as of September this year. The preliminary figures show that almost 500 people have applied for admission to the programme, including the more than 50 who chose the programme as their first priority. So far, applicants for the programme span 59 different nationalities.
- We are proud that Aalborg University can offer a degree programme that is relevant to so many people from all over the world. It confirms what we already know: that we are an international university with world-class education, says Anne Marie Kanstrup, Pro-rector of Aalborg University.
The new degree programme was established as part of fulfilling the government's goal of recruiting more international students to Denmark. Aalborg University offers a total of 180 new international places, 40 of which are earmarked for economics and business administration:
- We know that international students are talented and are a win for the Danish economy, especially if they stay in the country afterwards. I’m certain that meeting fellow students from other cultures will benefit our Danish students, just as the international students will of course also be integrated into an important part of Danish society. Everyone benefits, says Anne Marie Kanstrup.
Supports the need for qualified graduates
At a time when there is often a strong focus on attracting students to STEM subjects in particular, Anne Marie Kanstrup is pleased that there is also interest in other important fields:
- Companies are crying out for qualified labour, and we need all links in the value chain. If we want growth and entrepreneurship in North Jutland and the rest of the country, it is imperative that we train students with business skills and financial, strategic and organizational understanding. With the new degree programme, Aalborg University supports the need with an offer for international students.
Exact figures are not available yet for how many people chose AAU as their first priority, or for how applications are distributed by degree programme and location. But the expectation is that it will be similar to last year's applicant picture.
- We are pleased with all applicants who want to become part of Aalborg University. Studies show that Quota 2 students are less likely to drop out of their programme. So, we are of course very pleased to be able to maintain a stable number of applicants through Quota 2 despite declining youth cohorts, says Anne Marie Kanstrup.
Please note that it will only be possible to say anything definitive about the overall applicant picture for Aalborg University when the deadline for applying for admission via Quota 1 expires on 5 July at 12 noon. All applicants – both via Quota 1 and 2 – will receive a response to their application on Friday, 26 July.
