Intelligent use of health data can help people with inflammatory bowel disease
Worldwide, millions of people suffer from abdominal pain and bleeding as a result of persistent inflammatory conditions in the gastrointestinal tract, also called inflammatory bowel disease. The Danish National Research Foundation has granted DKK 68.5 million to the new research centre Center for Molecular Prediction of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (PREDICT) at AAU. Here, researchers will, among other things, combine blood and tissue samples from national biobanks with data from the unique Danish health registries and on that basis create the necessary understanding for how the diseases occur and progress. This knowledge is the prerequisite for being able to prevent the diseases, develop new medicine and tailor a treatment that fits the individual patient.
