Eating disorders and Neurodiversity
Research shows that eating disorder treatments are developed for neurotypical population in mind, however large proportion of patients are neurodiverse. Patients with eating disorders who have autism and ADHD have poor engagement with clinical teams, longer duration of illness and less benefits from existing recommended treatments.
In collaboration with patients, families and carers, research and clinical colleagues we created a clinical pathway - PEACE (the patients’ choice of acronym) www.peacepathway.com where we co-produced resources to support personilised clinical care for neurodiverse population.
I will share highlights from our research journey and pragmatic solutions for making eating disorder treatment more neurodivergent inclusive.
