Industrial/PhD course: Advanced measurements techniques in fluid mechanics – theory and practice

The objective of this course is to give the student an overview of laser based flow measurement techniques in the field of fluid mechanics. Particle Image Velocimetry and Laser Doppler Velocimetry are introduced by theoretical lectures and hands-on experiments. Through the experiments, the students will have the possibility to explore the advantages and limitations of those techniques. As experimental sessions are an important part of this course, the participants must work together in groups of max 4-5 persons. Laboratory safety and data reduction/analysis are offered in addition to the theoretical and experimental aspects.

Description

Day 1: 21/11/2022 10:00-19:00 (9 hours)

Registration and welcome (HS), Dimension analysis (JAH), Laser Safety (HS), Characteristics of tracers used in laser based measurements (JAH). 

Day 2: 22/11/2022 8:00-18:00 (10 hours)

Laser doppler Velocimetry (JAH), Particle Image Velocimetry (HS), Experiment #1. Group work.

Day 3: 23/11/2022 8:00-18:00 (10 hours)

Analysis and uncertainty of acquired date (JAH), Experiment #2, Group work.

Day 4: 24/11/2022 8:00-18:00 (10 hours)

Experiment #3, Excursion, Group work.

Day 5: 25/11/2022 9:00-15:00 (6 hours)

Group work, Presentation of Industrial cases (HS/GL), Mini conference with presentation of results obtained during the course (JAH, HS), Closing and feedback (HS).

Prerequisites

Participants must have fundamental knowledge on fluid mechanics and simple data acquisition.

Form of evaluation

The participants must hand in mini-projects in groups and complete a multiple-choice test.

Price

6000 DKK for PhD students outside of Denmark and 8000 DKK for the Industry.
