Sustainable Learning forms the development of a public school project in Struer, Lydens by Skole. The school is a place for gathering with an inviting and playful identity, emphasizing the school as an icon for the City of Sound, Struer. The project investigates exploratory learning environments with architectural and sustainable value. The integrated design process sets the framework for the project, which includes the Vitruvian virtues of architecture, considering aesthetic, functional and technical parameters when aiming for a perfection of form.
The project deals with the initiatives of the new Danish public school reform with longer school days, room for exercise and movement, and learning in multiple ways, both in and outside the classroom.
For optimal learning conditions, high requirements are set for the indoor climate with focus on daylight and acoustics. The building is designed to fulfill the energy demand appointed by the Danish government for 2020. With active design strategies, the building reaches the standard of a zero energy building.
