Tiltrædelsesforelæsning ved adjungeret professor Manuel Luis de la Mata Benítez:
The Sevilla Human Activity Approach
Abstract:
During the last two decades the research group Laboratorio de Actividad Humana, (LAH) has developed a theoretical and methodological approach to the study of the relationship between culture, conceived in terms of cultural practices or activity settings, and psychological processes. Three levels of analysis are considered:
Socio-cultural activities (such as formal education).
Mediated actions (psychological processes such as categorization, memory, problem-solving or narration).
Mediational means (semiotic resources and devices that mediates mental actions).
According to the above schema, our studies have focused on two main issues:
The analysis of the relationship between socio-cultural activities and mediated actions.
The study of discourse processes in socio-cultural activities like formal schooling.
Our methodological approach leaves room for the use of a variety of techniques for data collection and analysis, ranging from quasi-experimental to qualitative methods.
More recently, new topics are being developed. They include the analysis of the narrative construction of self in socio-cultural settings and gender issues, such as the construction of gender in school, the reconstruction of the self in women after suffering gender violence, and the role of social discourses about homosexuality in the construction of sexual and personal identity in lesbian women.
