Gæsteforelæsning - Libby Robin om Global Change Science - åben for alle

Tidspunkt
Tirsdag 2. oktober 2012 kl. 14:30 - 16:00

Titlen er: An anthology of the Anthropocene: documents from three centuries of global change science.

In this talk, Libby Robin will reflect on the history of the very new idea of the Anthropocene, the epoch in which the actions of humanity have come to affect every biophysical system on Earth. People are implicated in climate change, but also in the functioning of the major systems of the oceans and atmosphere, as well as in changing land uses, desertification, erosion and pollution. Paul Crutzen, who coined the term Anthropocene at the beginning of this millennium, saw the roots of change in the Industrial Revolution of the late 18th century. In a new book, The Future of Nature, edited by Libby Robin with Sverker Sörlin and Paul Warde (Yale UP, 2013), the last three centuries are explored as sources for ideas about global change. Libby will talk about how this task was approached, and the role history and the humanities have to play in ideas about global thinking in our own time.
